Montana DIY hunt started

Postby robloft » 11 04, 2018 •  [Post 1]

Finally started my drive to Montana. This year it’s a solo trip but hopefully next year isn’t. Should be there Tuesday evening and start hunting for a cow on some BMA land. Will try and post updates when I can.

Good luck! I’m sure many of us wish our hunt was just starting. I picked my meat up yesterday so excited to try some this week.

Be safe out there. My wife just received an email that one of her Co-workers from MT "died from injuries due to a hunting accident on Friday."

Went to the bma this morning and signed in and was driving to the hunting area and saw multiple groups of elk. One group of 8 bulls and two large groups of cows. One of the groups of cows was headed towards the bma I’m hunting. I got parked and got everything ready and headed towards where I had seen the cows going to verify they crossed the fence. They did right where I thought they would and kept heading south. I followed the trail for more than half a mile and here and there saw where it looked like elk were splitting off. Finally the trail played out in some blowdown. I circled around but couldn’t find any sign. Went and sat on a ridge and did some glassing but only saw a few mule deer. Hopefully tomorrow goes better.
