Many of us, I suppose have shot at an elk and could not find it or it took hours of pains taking inspection to locate the animal. How long do you look and how do you go about searching for an animal you shot at? When do you finally give up?

I shot a blacktail just at dark, looked for 3 days! It rained so hard, we wouldn't have a chance for a blood trail! I know I hit it just behind shoulder, not sure why he didn't die, must have missed everything. I looked for crows, coyote howls in area to see if he died! Nothing! It made me sad, but thinking he may be okay? I guess when you think you've looked long enough can't find anything sign. I feel that's a effort!
If you can't find me, I'm not lost. I'm hunting!
