Elk Diaphragm Review Part 1

Postby flystrait » 06 04, 2013 •  [Post 1]

Here is the video review of the idea I had of the side by side comparison of elk diaphragms. All of these calls were purchased and of my own opinion based on three different criteria that I wanted to look at. I know there are many other calls on the market, but due to the effort and time frame
this required I wanted to keep it to a minimum and I chose 5 different manufactures for the review.

Craig,
Great Job!

One thing I noticed in the video is you bending the "adult small" frames for better fit. This will slightly change the side tension of the latex. If I know someone is going to bend the call for fit I can "overstretch" the latex slightly so that it will be close to the design stretch. Depending how much you bend the frame it may be a mute point. I have played around with a micrometer on the inside edge of the frame and once the frame is bent inwards more than about .005" it will start to be become noticeable in the tone.

Thanks Jason,

I did not bend the calls for the review, I was just showing how to if needed. I agree it will slighty change the tone. If you over bend them it can change it greatly. Again I used all the calls directly out of the package without any modifications.
