Colorado Gun Laws

I am planning an elk hunt to Colorado this coming Fall and I want to be sure that I am up to date on the laws. I have been reading that there have been some new gun legislation in Colorado. Are there any aspects of this legislation a hunter needs to know before coming to Colorado? Do we have to register a rifle at the border when entering the state? I read that some hunters are advocating a boycott of the state. What is everyone's thoughts about this idea? I want to hunt but I don't want to walk into a hornet's nest nor do I want to support a state that is promoting laws that are in conflict with our gun rights and hunting.

Please give me an update on the gun politics of Colorado!

The "assault weapon" legislation will not affect your hunting weapons. Go hunt

I was wondering about this also. Are you sure you can have sidearms with 15 round magazines?

If you own it it is grandfathered in. Just don't let your buddy use any of your guns and your good to go.

How can they prove you didn't own it before this July? Assault weapons aren't banned just future sales, if you own it prior to this July it is grandfathered and no one else can touch it. So only new purchases in CO are banned not ownership as far as I know but always better to call then take legal advice over the web

you should be good to go. mags already in possession are fine. hunters shouldn't see any changes. also, a lot of sheriffs offices says they arnt gonna enforce the laws anyway. go hunt and have fun

very true, I just didn't know how many and exactly where at so I didn't wanna be to specific. havnt heard anymore from the lawsuit either. hopefully there will be an injuction until it gets settles.
