What is the grass like in the high country?

In the elk & cattle post someone mentioned the grass in elk country. How is it this year? Has it been dry? Do you expect more or less rain than normal? I am concerned with Colorado but feel free to report on other states. I prefer it to be a bit dry. Green grass everywhere makes finding elk a little harder.

Looks green now but with the two hotest months to come if it is dry things could change.

Most of the stuff the elk will be eating come Sept is still brown and hasn't come up yet in the areas I've been scouting. They are about 1500 ft lower than where they'll be in a month,but the grass is looking awesome in my areas this season and is as good as I've seen this time of year for some time.

Depends on what part of the state you are talking about. In the south it is dry and hopefully the monsoon season will arrive with good rains before fire becomes a big issue. In the central part of the state vegetation in the high country looks pretty good as I would imagine it does in the northern part of the state as well…
