Keep my cool, wind is good. Let him remain calm and wait till I get a slight quartering away shot and get it done!

At 50yds I like the x but at that range Im going to aim 2in higher as the trajectory of the arrow will be dropping and I dont want it too low.

I know I could make that shot ( confidence is key).....but I'm probably going to wait. At 50 yards a lot could happen and given the wind is in my favor I'm going to wait for a better angle.

The X looks great for a double lung shot. But 50 yards is just a little too far for me. "A man has to know his limitations"!

He isn't alarmed and the wind is in my favor. I'll wait till he offers a better angle.

Well I like where the x is problem I would have is I would start lookin at those antlers so more than likely my arrow would head in their direction making this neat rattling noise as he runs off and my arrow drops to the ground. if it was a smaller bull I would feel confident with the shot. Besides I bet he is tougher than shoe leather or at least I would tell myself that

hmmmm...........

I can make that one. But will I get another, maybe better? Is that bull by himself? where are his cows?
what kind of scene is unfolding there?

herein lies the rule that must be observed.
"take your first, best, shot"

there is a lot that goes in to the answer of that one. limitations of distance, body position and balance for good execution of a long shot,
wind, mental focus, calm nerves, light, are you at the top of your game or just wishing you were?

since I have time and wind, I am going to draw, relax, slow my focus and check to see how steady I am; if the execution checklist is all green; every so gently squeeze and hold and follow the fletch.

At 50yds I would wait & allow him to feed across until he was a bit more broadside. Much higher than the X & you are flirting with the scapula.

I'm waiting for a little more broadside, especially at 50 yards. A little left nothing but bone, a little right and you
're lucky to get one lung. Taking a second look his lt hind quarter looks withered, you might get more meat off a spike and you know it'll taste better than this old piece of shoe leather.

No shot for me here. Nothing wrong with the angle, and the bull is plenty big.

But I shoot a longbow! 8-) 20-30 yards max for me.

You lost me at 50 yards. He is angling toward me. I am waiting. If he were at 20 yards, I am at full draw, I'll still be waiting. As soon as he he see's something is wrong or he runs me over, arrow is sent on it's way.

Had a cow elk walk into camp last Saturday ... presented the same shot, at exactly 50 yards. (Of course, I wasn't hunting.)

My wife asked "Could you have shot her?"

"Nope" was my answer ... 50 yards is edging "too far", especially for that angle, where the margin of error is small ... and she was going to feed out broadside, anyway.

As above, though, I'd be ready to take my first, best shot should things develop just a bit more.

Wind is good, bull is relaxed and feeding.

I'm going to exercise patience here, I want his head on my wall ! 8-)

After further review, I noticed the left hind leg looks like its broke or has been broke.

I bet you could just wait him out and get him with your knife :)

Not a chance. Too much can go wrong to force a shot on a bull that is most likely going to feed broadside at 40 yards. Another shot that is not a good one and one I won't take. At 50 if you don't hit the V you're screwed. You hit "behind the shoulder" where most guys aim and that's a one lung hit.

A bit beyond my comfort range for a first shot, especially with a moose like that. I'm probably waiting just a bit for at least a broadside shot at that distance. That's at least my official thread answer.. That's a big old bull.

good consideration guys...
OK
ponder this....I bet he wont stand there long before he takes another step. just maybe the shoulder rolls a little to square up some.
For you shooters that can do that distance, it just takes longer to get off a 50 yd shot than a 15. Wont you consider drawing now, preparing yourself for that moment to be just seconds away.? If he squares up and you feel you can make the shot you are ready and been through that mental checklist of form before you execute the shot.
If not you can always let off. My bet is that if I can draw on him, wait and I have to let down, I can and still be at the table for the next hand to play.
what do you say?

I'm gonna wait him out . Just need a little bit more of a broadside shot. Besides, the size factor would already have me peeing in my boots..WOW.
