Tree Standing This Year?

Postby WapitiTalk1 » 06 23, 2013 •  [Post 1]

Just curious, how many folks plan on doing at least some tree stand hunting for elk this year? I haven't taken the plunge and bought one yet but it's on my list but perhaps not for this year. I currently have two hunting books I read in the evening. Elknut's playbook and Swede's Rocky Mountain Elk Tree Stand Hunting. Both are packed full of great information.

Who has some tree stand hunting for elk in their plans for this fall?

Myself and a buddy will each be in a treestand this year. We're going to use the Millennium M-50 Stands over well used trails and wallows.

+1, never done it specifically for elk before. Shot one while in a deer stand couple years ago. Have had a camera on a wallow last couple years and have to change my ways now. One thing that factored into my choice was a local archer that had a serious foot injury that limited his ability to get around. So he sat a tree stand and after 30 years killed his biggest bull, a heavy 6X6 that went 360 in an otc unit. So I am going to try it...and order swede's book to read while I'm sitting.

Some of my stands are going to be doubles so 2 guys can hunt together.
Not sure yet if one tree for both, or 2 trees close together.

Tree stand hunting opening weekend this year. If I don't shoot anything, maybe my good buddy Swede will let me sit on his lap the following weekend. :D

Yes we will use treestands this season over water holes and over trails to bedding areas.
On our trail cams we have seen elk going to water at 2:30 PM bear too even on cool days.
