Grunt Tubes "Side by Side" Comparison

Postby flystrait » 06 24, 2013 •  [Post 1]

Thanks to everyone again for following the Diaphragm review. Now that's been completed and the support I received, I am getting back to the calls again. Do you feel that a grunt tube comparison would be of value. This would not be a review but a simple comparison of all tubes blown through one after another with the same reed. I'm thinking of throwing three different bugles through each one. Location, bugle with chuckles, and finally a challenge bugle with grunts. I have 7 different manufactures latest tubes on hand.

Thanks
Craig

Craig, throw in a 20" long, 3" wide PVC plastic pipe just to see if these modern, durn fangled, dang nabbit contraptions really sound any better than an old piece of plastic. I know the answer already but would like to see you prove it with your tests ;)

Yep. Either that or a large pop bottle with the end cut off.

Haha. My first bugle was a 1.5L Dasani water bottle with the end cut off. Called a lot of animals in with it that first season lol.

Don't discount the power of an 18 or 20 inch, properly camouflaged chunk of old PVC pipe. Back in the day, I could hold one above my head on a Montana ridge top, and with just the mere sight of this powerful tool, they'd come running. I wouldn't even have to break out my diaphragm :)... Looking forward to your comparisons Craig. Are you gonna use just one diaphragm for your test or several? RJ

I will be using one diaphragm for all the bull sounds through each tube. I have used PVC as well over the years along with many other things such as a Gatorade bottle with the end cut of and etc. In the right situation almost anything can work.
