Partner or Pack of Wolves

Postby WapitiTalk1 » 06 25, 2013 •  [Post 1]

How will be hunting this elk season? As a solo elk slayer or with a friend or friends (pack of wolves).

Four bows in camp, but we each hunt solo or in pairs for two weeks. I hunt solo the other two weeks simply because I'm the only one with four weeks vacation!

Solo for the first week of Washington, then off to idaho. 3 bows in camp, so we'll see how it shakes out.

Four in our group. Plan right now is to split up in teams of two from spike camp and adjust from that point on if we have success.

I don't mind others in camp. As a matter of fact I enjoy that. But when it comes to hunting I split up and go solo. I can mess things up good enough all by myself. Don't need any help! LOL!

Just 3 of us for the last several years. I generally head out by myself & the 2 others team up. It's my son & one of his high school buddys.Under the right circumstances we set up a triangle "calling event" that has acounted for several elk.

We hunt as two much of the month but will also have others alongside through part of the month too. Other times we go solo so we really mix things up! The deadliest way to hunt & kill elk is 2 guys that are on the same page, nothing better!

We mix it up, depending on what the elk are doing. Early season it is generally solo as we keep silent. Once the elk start talking, we team up.

Solo, but have open camp for my brother and a 17 yr old newbie to archery. They aren't to the point where their years long happiness depends on a couple of weeks like I am so not sure how long and if they'll make it.

Elkaholic and I were just talking about this the other day. Now that I think about it, there may be as many as 8 in camp this year, depending on how everyone's schedules work out.

But like most people, after we leave camp, we end up in 1s or 2s for the actual hunt. It sure makes packing easier when there are a herd of people around.

In your guys's case Femoral you guys are the pack of wolves. (grin)

There is going to be three of us hunting together this year. Two of us have bow-hunted together in the past. The other guy has hunted a lot but is just getting into bow hunting. We will undoubtedly be using the triangle method some but a lot will depend on where we find the elk.

Solo, I keep inviting friends to hunt with me, but after I take them scouting, they tell me to call them when I'm ready to road hunt during rifle season. Never happens.

Partner or Pack of Wolves

Postby Solitude » 07 02, 2013 •  [Post 27]

Two bows....my bro and me.
I have been fortunate the last couple years to team up, but prior to that I went solo and will do so in the future if I must. The ole wapiti draws my sole into the hills each September.

I will be just one of the pack this year. Perhaps I will Solo out to scout if we are not finding them, but will try to increase the odds with the deadly hunting triangle this year.

If we are a pack of wolves, I'm only a wolf by association.

I'd like to think of myself as a one man wolf pack, but the 13 old (un-notched) tags still in my wallet say otherwise...

Solo scouting in New mexico for 3 days, hunting with a partner for 5 days, and finish out season solo if needed. May even venture to Colorado the last week of September.

The one guy that I am most compatible with had a surprise from Uncle Sam on tax day that knocked him out and the others that I've asked only want to go if someone can drive us within a hundred yards of a giant bull in a truck and then only have to get out to shoot. I'd rather hunt alone anyway. :(

Much like real wolves, our 4 spread out, find elk, and then team up. We all hunt a little bit solo, but we hunt in groups of 2 or 3 also.
