One tree stand is in place...

Postby cnelk » 06 28, 2013 •  [Post 1]

As you may have seen my trail cam pics over the wallow, I set my tree stand in a spot to cover as much as I could with being mindful of the wind and how i will access the stand

Here are a couple short vid clips

It looks to me that you are trying to get an unfair advantage on those poor elk in your hunting area.

cnelk: Other that why you selected that particular tree, can you tell us why you chose that general location to set up your stand? There must be many places around your hunting area where you could sit and watch for elk. Why this particular place? Are those the only wallows, and is that the only place for the elk to get a drink? Maybe you see something altogether different. thanks

Swede
I found the walllow in 2011.
Each time I have been there I have encountered a bull.
There is other water a ways away, but not secluded like this spot.
There is a bedding area near and feed near.
Its cooler there [like WW's thermo-clim]
Not too far away is a proven breeding ground for elk.

Only 2 other people have been to that particular spot.
Very, very, close friends...

There is one downside...
When I went thru the motions of drawing a bow yesterday, the area directly behind will be a challenge as my safety harness strap impedes my right elbow. Even leaning out. I may have to lower he tree strap, but then it may compromise when I stand.
I tried slipping off the right shoulder strap and that would work, but....?

And as we all know, we now know where the elk will be standing :)

I place my tree safety strap high enough so that when I sit down my tether has only a little slack. I do not want to feel like I am hanging by it or that it is even snug, but I cannot lean forward much either. I never have an interference from my harness or strap. It just sounds like your tree strap is too low.
I like your response to why that area was appealing to you. Hopefully others will note some of those points as they look for quality tree stand locations.
