communicating to partners while calling

Postby ST52V » 07 15, 2013 •  [Post 1]

I saw Curt Wells explain how he uses a single cow sound to let the shooters know it was time to end the stand and move on. If shooters agree they respond with the same sound. If they want to stay for what ever reason they remain quite. Keeps the caller from running elk off that might be close. What do you guys do??

We do the same thing, but it may vary depending on how far apart we are and the cover we are dealing with. I have thrown a stick, or I may use a nervous grunt if we are about 100 yards apart. I have had trouble when I was calling and had my son trying to stalk in quietly while I kept the bull talking. I am going to have to work on that when we hunt together on the ground late season this year.

Caller: 3 quick chirps, Shooter: 3 quick chirps = All clear

That's what I've always done, gotta have some kind of signal and this is as easy as any.

I like the three quick chirps idea. I can't remember what we used last year. I think we did a couple different things because of the situations and calling settups were different.

Are you serious? lol I don't do that on a regular basis but I have done it as a joke when I was ready to move on. Usually if I'm calling from behind I'll just slip forward until I'm with the shooter.

I think the 18 and under crowd just texts!

That's one of those "why didn't I think of that" moments! I usually whistle, use hand signals, or in the case of my kids, get up and go get them. I like the turkey call idea best and will use that this year. Thanks!
