open carry in Colorado

Postby eriks. » 07 16, 2013 •  [Post 1]

Quick question with hopefully quick answer.

Is it legal to open carry a handgun in Colorado while hunting? Do you have to have a concealed carry permit or is it just ok to carry in a outside holster without permit?

if you have a ccw you can carry concealed here. and open carry is completely legal. not sure if its legal while hunting. there is a Colorado open carry website that will answer any questions you have.

Check out the Hillpeople Gear Kit Bag. It's the most comfortable way to carry while wearing a pack that I've ever found.

You don't need a CCW permit while hunting. Once you're done hunting, the weapon needs to be in plain view.

I assume the Concealed carry license must be issued by Colorado if you have one in your pack (concealed)? My wife has a CC license in Texas and didn't know if she could conceal it in Colorado. We assumed not.

Most states honor concealed carry from other states. My wife carries when I'm afield, hers has been good in all states we have inquired except NY.

What I wonder about is the new law that CO passed; how many rounds can you legally carry? Plus, are there any NEW restrictions that might NOT allow non residents to even open carry?

I think it may be 15 rounds Ken but not sure. Most rural sheriffs have stated they won't enforce the new law. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Just don't do open carry in Denver.

Hey CNELK, What holster are you using for your pack? How did you attach it. That's exactly what I'm looking for. Can you share some additional picks or thoughts?

My pack [Badlands Superday] has a built-in holster on each side of the waist belt.
Complete with built-in velcro straps to keep weapon in place

Hey brad, try this out. Most autos will fit nicely in the webbing of the Superday. And they are a heck of a lot easier to draw if the need should arise.

Bill:

Thanks for the replies! My son (police officer) and I will likely be packing Glocks out. We lock them, unloaded, in a case for the drive out and bury the case in the truck. A great fear is being stopped for some reason (like 30 over the speed limit - LOL) and somehow having state police find the handguns, say in Illinois..... Egads, yikes!!

Simply for weight, I'll only carry 10 rounds in my Glock 23 40 S&W, my sons model 27 only holds 10 I think.

Try this setup for a Superday pack. It's a lot quicker to get it out in a hurry if needed. Trust me, I know. I was confronted by a pack of sheep dogs once and had a hell of a time getting my Glock out of that stupid holster that Badlands puts on their packs.

I like that Bill
I also put a piece of electrical tape over the barrel end and around the clip.
As you can see, when you set your pack down the barrel is in direct contact with the ground.
