Hey Doc, back in the day, I actually used a permanent black marker to darken all my BHs to snuff any reflective shine. I haven't done it for years but when I did do it, the black marker worked well. Your disorder is pretty common around here :)...

And I thought I was the only one who was concerend about that! Great question.I know from my wildlife work of years past, bears are curious about shiny things. They'd tear down our "pie-tin lures" on our backcountry hair-snare stations. I'm not sure elk have the same curiousity, but we would have A LOT of elk hair on our snare pads. Then again, there wasn't a camoed ninja-assasin attached to the tree that the pie-tin was attached to. It would be interesting to hear from others that have had any experiences with difference or no-difference to broadhead shine . . .

i paint all mine to look like butterflies.

that way the elk thinks to himself, "hey look! a pretty butterfly. and it looks like it want to land on my ribs"

(then i hope it steps forward with that leading leg to offer up a nice landing spot for the butterfly)

i'm joking btw.

Permanent marker on the sharpened edges helps keep them from rusting also.
