Cooled off here in No. Cal also, lows in the 60 range, instead of the 80 range. Looking forward to the temps in Id. in about 35 days, 34,33 but who' :D :D s is counting

Low of 41* last night, with the 10 day high no warmer than a projected 62* about 20 miles from where we will be. Considering I did my run at 10 pm here in Kansas, and it was 80* with 80% humidity, those 40* marks really get me pumped up!

I have been thinking about how we have had a lack of summer here too... I just checked the "extended forcast" for my hunting area and see a 8* drop from "normal" temps. This could mean SNOW earlier than normal.

My question is how does this effect your hunting, packing, gear, animal interactions and overall hunting outlook if you do have snow on the ground for the majority of your hunt?

To piggyback onto Swamp Buck's question, why do you guys prefer cooler weather for elk season? What are the advantages when it's cooler, or disadvantages when it's warmer?

Taking care the of the meat. I would rather have it colder personally and like cnelk said, sweat!

Since we don't run around with a fur coat like elk do, and still sweat a ton, cooler weather just makes everything better. Cooler hiking, more comfortable, taking care of meat, the need for a campfire, cool is just better.

Thismorning I walked outside to water the lawn and took a big deep breath and said to myself, "oh yea....it's coming". Today just smells different ;)

My crab-apple tree is starting to have apples. The bear should be showing up soon.

Tonight was beautiful but hot out at the range. No wind today which was weird. Friday, heading to mountains to cool off and to find those brown smelly things we chase in September.

Had snow on August 7/8th above timberline in Colorado. It was hot again this weekend and the bugs were bad. I want to sit a creek for ambush but the mosquitoes are terrible right now down in there.

Mountain folks think winter will be early this year. I hope so.

Lots of good moisture mid/late summer, however, seasonal creeks are dry again this year. That makes 2 years in a row they are dry. 3 years ago after a high snow year, they were flowing in September. Still plenty of places for elk to get water.

38 degrees is fine Brad. But I won't be so happy when that 38 is on the other side of the zero mark.

It is cooling off. I heard a lot of bugling a couple weeks ago from a very unpressured herd.
