Scouting report

Postby Mikeha33 » 08 02, 2013 •  [Post 1]

Just got first word of our area that we'll be hunting this fall from a buddy of my hunting partners that spent 12 days scouting, and it was good and bad. The bad, the areas that we WERE planning on hunting had very little elk sign, and only saw a few cows in 6 days of heavy glassing and hiking; so he moved a couple miles to another spot, and boy are we glad he did. His report was awesome. Over 300 elk spotted in 5 days, with (to his best counting ability), over 30 different shooter bulls, and his category of shooter standards is higher than mine, so if he's at least close on his number, Ill at least be in the area of legal bull, and I will shoot a cow, given the opportunity 5 days in.

Now I just have to spend a lot of time on GE, and with my maps, and make myself familiar with a new area, and hope they don't move too terribly far in the next 33 days. Time is not something I have a lot of these days.

Just wanted to share my excitement!

That a good reprt!

I would be prepared to hunt the area where the elk arent now too...
A couple miles is about a 10 min trot for elk :)

Sounds like a good report. Like cnelk said elk cover a lot of ground in no time. I would be prepared to move if you don't find them in a couple days or so. Good luck and don't forget pics and story required upon return.

Sounds excellent. I am heading out in a little over a week to cover some ground also.

Now if you only furnished coordinates the info could be confirmed! ;)
