Hunting around a bedding area

Postby 1bigpaddle » 08 20, 2013 •  [Post 1]

What are some opinions on hunting near or on a bedding area? What would be the best way to hunt one? Or why not?

Here you go buddy. There was some pretty good discussion on this bedding area thread from FEB this year. If you open the thread and want to bring it back to the top for some additional discussion, by all means do so. RJ

i'm getting better at hunting bedding areas. I hunt mostly dark timber and elk trails that go thru dark timber so I know at anytime I could be stumbling across bedding areas. everytime I hear that short lazy bugle that I hear I know i'm in or around a bedding area. this is where it gets tuff. do you move in and sit tight and hope the bull checks his cows giving you a shot opportunity? or are you aggressive, move in and attempt to call his cows from him? if the latter we have to know what sounds will call his cows from him.

good observations......If you are the type guy that has real good patience, waiting is pretty good tactic as long as the wind is your friend.

I have taken several bulls mid day like this....mew and wait. listen and wait.
scrape a tree and wait. mew.
it may take a while, till he tries to slip in, but it works !
