Look Out elk hunting and scouoting can be dangerous

Postby Lefty » 08 25, 2013 •  [Post 1]

Sort of tounge-in-cheek.
Dave is going to hunt with me a few times this year. Tuesday I brought the wrong SD card home so yesterday we drove out to switch it out. Driving down the road we both heard this fellow, evidently didnt like the clatter of Daves diesel.
Dave and I are both 15 year transplants; 5 years each in Utah and 10 in Idaho Hes is from Missiori Im from Minnesota and we both married Idaho girls

This fellow was the third rattler Ive seen in my life. Two last year, one this year.
This one was on a scouting trip, one last year on an elk scouting trip and one the last day I archery elk hunted.
This was also Dave third rattler,.. One on a hike, one elk hunting and this guy.
We both talked about the three each time the snake gave plenty of fair warning,...

Im not afraid of snakes, but a bite iwhere we hunt does cause me some concern

Enjoy

Any time I see a rattler I think about someone's pets, livestock, children or anyone's safety for that matter and I do what I can to kill it. Albeit from a distance. Knowing one of those is slithering around an area that I visit, and I could have removed it, is unnerving. In the country I'll toss large rocks on its head until the job is done. Fortunately I've only come across three in my life. Not a huge impact but that's three fewer that others have not had to deal with.

Be safe!

How high can you expect to find them. We hunted one year and asked local if there would be rattle snakes, and he said it was too high. 7000', later that week we saw one in the road, dead at 6300'. Anybody know?
