CO unit 66

Postby Camejas » 09 30, 2013 •  [Post 1]

Hunting 1st season rifle elk for the first tme this year and staying in Lakecity. Anybody have any insight on the unit and/or areas of the unit to target? We don't have any problem getting off the beaten path and away from the crowds to get to the animals.

We used to find elk on the southern end of Alpine Plateau, on the side slopes more than on top (bring your skillet). That was back before the internet...

No, not a lot of info on. 66. I hunted there first rifle season in 2011. My first year elk hunting. I learned that elk hunting is nothing like deer hunting and if I wanted to hunt elk I better do more research. I did hear that the south side of the unit was good. I camped on east side and hunted central area. On five day hunt I saw one hunter in woods and a couple outfitter camps.
Good luck to you.
