thx brad, it was a life long dream for me, one that I honestly believed would never happen without getting an outfitter. I got lucky an got it done my first bowseason.
as has been said a million times on here, it wouldn't have happened without the info and encouragement of folks on this site, so I tip my cap to all of you and humbly say thankyou.

First Elk. I have been researching and studying since 2007. All the reading, watching, dreaming, calling, praying, planning, working out, packing has finally all come to a glorious conclusion this year. I could not be happier with the outcome. I hope this is the start of trend for me. Over the counter tag, public land, DIY, Colorado.

Thanks for giving us first timers special mention cnelk. What swampbuck said. I've worked my arse off the last 5 or 6 years and was finally rewarded this year. A lot of things had to come together to make it happen, and every year I got just a little bit closer than the year before. I don't feel like it was OWED to me, but I do feel it is deserved and I have no problems saying that. ;) I am both humbled and gracious. I have come to know this particular area like the back of my hand, yet this guy I have never seen. His bedding area was only roughly 80 yards (60-ish as the crow flies) from my treestand. I think it is kinda funny that most (not all) of my closest encounters and eventual success in this area, have all come in the afternoons (between 1:30pm and 3pm) after heavy early morning rainstorms have cleared up and the weather is transitioning. Let me say, the heavy rainstorms are much nicer in a blind than in a treestand! :D Anyways, here's my pic. I was only able to get 2 different ones. I really hate the flagging in this photo, but I was too frantic and in disbelief to think about removing it before taking it. I'm surprised I remembered I had my tripod and camera . . . I was just THAT gorked out! I only posted the "Cliff Notes" version of my story in the other Meatpole, maybe if I get some time I'll post the whole thing. Or maybe not. It seems a moot point now. Congrats to everyone!

Thanks Brad for editing the surveyors tape out of my photo! Looks much better. Both CNELK and SHOWMEELK did an edit job, and PM'd the photos to me. I thought that was a very cool gesture, as I didn't even ask, and I really appreciate it. SHOWMEELK, I went with Brad's since his was completely seemless . . . no hard feelings! :)

Well here is my first elk. Got it in MT with my good friend Mr.Steve, this was our first year chasing elk and we are definitely hooked, from having a spike bull come charging in to 14 yards and having a nice 5X5 at 70 yards screaming back to Steve's calling. Definitely will be a hunt we will never forget and got the whole thing on video.

Great minds think alike Brad!!! I was thinking about making a similar post to congratulate all the first timers but you beat me to it. So here is a big CONGRATULATIONS to all you guys. And wELKome to the 10% club for this season.

And as for Swamp Buck: You out did yourself! You are ruined for life and you'll have a heck of a time ever trying to beat your first one. And bnsafe , I'm proud of you. You have been on the forum all year. Looks like all your dreams finally came true.

This is my son's first elk taken with a bow this season.. He could have taken very large bulls both last year and the year before when he was 12 but just didn't connect. He was super stoked when he found her.

Congratulations to each and every hunter that hit the Wapiti Jackpot this fall. Fantastic photos of some seriously euphoric guys. Don't even have to ask how good it feels to get that first one! Nothing like it in this life.
