Overcame some very tough hunting conditions in Montana to harvest my first elk.

Thanks guys. The kicker was I got off crutches the day we left for hunting. Broke my foot while doing a trail run on Aug. 11. Pushed the trip back 1 week and figured at least I could go to the mountains and be camp cook for my brother. Didn't expect this success but kept a positive attitude and just went for it! My X-ray's tomorrow will tell me if I did any extra damage to my foot by disobeying Docs orders! With all the planning and anticipation put into the trip, it was hardly an option to ask for a monetary refund from the state of Montana. At the very least, after being laid up for so long, my mental health needed a getaway to the mountains! Thanks to all of you Elknuts and the forum for the last 6 months of pointers!

Congratulations on a beautiful heavy antlered bull. First bull or umpteenth, he is a dandy. I hope your x-rays turn out as good as your elk.

Thanks Swede! I left my favorite reading material of the trip back in the tent that day, which included your book and Elknuts Playbook! Great reads gentlemen. Funny thing is that I ended up relying on some good old fashioned Big Woods still hunting to get it done. Lack of knowledge of the area kept me from tree stand hunting and the elk were extremely quiet with the wet, snowy September storms. I did find some great tree stand areas for next time though!! :D The first 5 elk within bow range were all spikes, which were off limits. I was able to get up on this 6 point in his afternoon bed at 42 yards on a steep downhill angle and made the shot that I had dreamed of! I can see where this might get a tad addicting.

Brady - you are the man!!! Nice elk!!! And way to push through the broken foot... Maybe it forced you go slow and steady, which turned out to be an asset.
