Muzzleloader Rut Hunt

Postby vertical limit » 05 29, 2015 •  [Post 1]

Well I drew my Nevada bull tag. It is a muzzleloader hunt during the peak of the rut. Hunt dates are Sept 10-30. If I hunt the last 10 days, I should be right during the prime time of the rut. They only give out 10 tags for this unit so there shouldn't be a lot of pressure. I will be spending a lot more time on this forum and studying my ElkNut playbook to make sure I am fully prepared. Now I just need that new bugle we are all waiting for!!!!

Sweet! Congrats on the draw bud! Nevada is a great elk state with many respectable bulls, what do you have your sights set on?

The wait for the Bugle will not be much longer they are shipping to us shortly! Also, consider the 15th through the 25th if can only hunt 10 days, those are great times right there! (grin) You will have a blast!!!

Drawing a tag such as that I would have to make arrangements to be there the whole time if at all possible! Way too valuable of tag to just hit it ten days.

I have cam pics from last year of a couple 360+ bulls, one that should go about 380. I know for sure that the big one survived and one of the 360 bulls survived. My good friend hunted this area last year with the same tag and shot a 365 bull. So, I have my sights set on a 360+ bull. At least to begin with. I'm not against shooting a smaller bull later in the hunt.

Here in Nevada we have some absolute monster bulls. But, they are usually very deep into some nasty country, which is what I love.

As far as only going for 10 days, I have to wait and see what happens when the season gets closer. The wife is having our baby next weekend, so I have to see how much vacation time that will burn up before I make any plans. 10 days is the absolute minimum I will be out there. Definitely more if I can swing it.

I forgot to mention that the area I drew is only about 90 miles from my house, so scouting will be done frequently....

I just checked out my hunt dates and I was mistaken... The hunt is from Sept 17-30, which is better for me as i can now probably be there for the whole season. :P :P

Congrats on drawing An awesome tag! Please share a few pics of your hunt as it unfolds so those of us that didn't draw can live vicariously through you

So, I am a couple years late on posting photos of my Nevada bull hunt, but better late than never. Besides, who doesn't like seeing pics of bulls!! He's not the 360 bull I had in mind, but he is unique and has some good character. It was a tough hunt, but worth every minute of it!!
