Do Spikes bugle?

We were chasing bugles last weekend and when we set up to call had spikes come in to our calls. Just curious if you guys think we were chasing the spikes to begin with.

I have never heard a spike full on bugle, but have heard quite a few "squeal" one year there was a spike that was a really vocal bull...he bugled quite a bit, but it was too pitiful to call a bugle

it reminds me of a 12 year old yelling trying to sound mean

Certainly depends on the matureness of the bugle! Odds are you heard other bulls & the spikes slipped in out of curiosity. But yes, spikes do bugle as do the cows.

I've seen a lot of elk bugle and I'm sure spikes can but I have never actually seen one bugle. I've seen them do the nervous grunt and have seen them give a few chuckles but never a bugle. I'm going to agree with elknut (brilliant ) I'm guessing you were hearing other bulls.

Mark, spikes have a very immature & short style bugle like a cow would have. Look at this clip of a cow bugling, did it sound like this or was it a more mature sound?
