Checking in

Postby N2mywake » 09 14, 2017 •  [Post 1]

Guys I haven't had much time to post lately but the Ky boys are on the ground in Colorado. We've been hanging out around Gunnison the last few days trying to aclimate a bit before we head up. We're going to grab a big breakfast this morning and head for the hills until the 25th.

We have tried to get some boots on the ground a bit in the eves and listen to the bugles at the Castleton Ranch.

Good luck to all of you guys. Image

That's a really great picture, thanks for posting it.

If you are hunting the ranch where they are bugling, it sounds like your hunt would go pretty good..

We weren't hunting the ranch we just like to drive by and watch the elk there when in the area. We packed in and hunted wilderness area for 10 days. Some great encounters but came up short. I'd rather come up short trying with my bow than any other way.

The 20-30 mph winds for 5 days made it rough (40-50 mph gusts at times).

Here's a pic of the sunset on our last night. Image

I completely agree with you! Hope you had a good hunt...I have 3 afternoons left, not sure if I will even be able to go all three of them.

We had a great hunt. I had a couple of opportunities at herd bulls, one shot I misjudged the yardage at least it was a clean Miss.

We know we had a great hunt, if on the drive home we are thinking about our next hunt, and start the planning right away. I see RJ is thinking about a new area. I am too. Quitting is not an option.

If the bulls were already bugling on the Castleton, that doesn't bode well for rifle seasons. It means the elk have already been pushed off public land

Debbie Downer.... ;-) No little black rain clouds are allowed this close to season.

I'm going to be optimistic and say they will all leave the Castleton before Saturday and flood the public land adjoining the ranch... I'll have to be careful not to get run over by a herd on my way in Saturday morning. Maybe I better wear a helmet, just to be safe.

If things go that way, my most difficult task will be choosing which bull to shoot....
