Memorable 2017

Postby nrocchio » 09 26, 2017 •  [Post 1]

It was another great season. This year was the best season I have had yet. I just wanted to share a little about it and post a video of a moment I will never forget. I was able to shoot a cow early in the season. I closed the distance on a group of bedded cows and after 20-30 minutes of waiting they stood up. The only cow that gave me a clean shot was 40 yards broadside. I was able to make a good shot and she went down 60-70 yards from where she was hit. I still had a deer tag and was able to hunt the rest of the season. I came close on a few deer, but was never able to get within shooting range. On my final night in the mountains the bulls were bugling. I still had my diaphragm in my pack, so with the last few minutes of daylight, on the last night of my hunting trip I sat on a saddle and threw out a few cow calls. I was able to capture it all on video. Even though I already filled my elk tag, and couldn't take a shot. This was the highlight of my season, and the most enjoyable hunting experience I have ever had.

this video isn't playing for me in the post so I attached the link as well.

He ended up within 10-15 yards, maybe closer, when he stopped the second time in the video. He was CLOSE.

Thank you.
Haha, I have taken those shots watching the video too. It was good experience, even with the tag already filled. It made me realize how quickly it all can go down if you call a bull in. I think I would have had to draw as soon as I saw him coming in and hold until he stopped. There weren't many opportunities to not get busted on the draw after that.

Nice video Nick, very cool. Congrats on the cow as well.

I'm pretty sure I know your Dad... if he is from a small town in south central part of Colorado.. Tell him Mark from Canon City says hi.. Tell him we used to chase muleys 30 years together.. Well, I chased muleys... bears chased your father, lol.

Hey Mark,
Sorry I didn't reply for a year. I usually don't log in until around hunting season. I talked to my parents and you do know my Dad! My mom said you guys used to hunt together when I was really young. That is really cool, what a small world that the internet makes even smaller.

Nick thanks for sharing. Gets me pumped for the season especially since I most likely was standing almost in the same spot the day before. Crazy how much difference a day can make. Can't wair to get your text telling me you need help pulling a monster out this season. Good luck and good hunting.
