Hearing loss and elk bugles

Postby Lefty » 10 08, 2017 •  [Post 1]

This year it became apparent : I dont hear bugles very well or not at all.
It happened to many times this season. My daughter heard bugles and I didn't. One time was three bulls firing off 200 yard and I was just over the hill. Another my daughter was 70 yards away and a bull bugles a number of times responding to my calling, the bull less than 100 yards from her ( and down wind). And she heard lots of solid bugles from bulls I never heard.
I thought last year my wife was messiing with me about all the bulls she was hearing,.. Im missing a lot of bulls
Any one else? Am I on my way to hearing aids?

Not RJ. He hears bulls and wildcats where there are none. I will let him explain. I don't hear great, but my hearing problem is apparently not near as acute as you describe.

If you even think about it, you are past needing them. I can't hear them either. Tinnitus is killing me.

I have the same problem and I'm only in my late 30s. Twenty plus years working construction and in heavy manufacturing plants has paid a toll.

Hearing aids only help if you have nerve endings that are still working, once you hear ringing (tinnitus) it's too late, that ringing is the nerve endings dying. My hearing loss prevents me from hearing anything above 8000 hertz and I've got severe tinnitus. Get checked by an expert and go with his advice.

Same here; years in sheet metal shops, and many many miles on a bike did me in. Went to a specialist and he only laughed and told me to get used to it, that there isnt anything they can do. If you heard otherwise Rammont please share. At times I cant hear anything else, drives one nuts!

I have severe tinnitus in my left ear , I can't hear anything much over 3000hz in either ear. I can hear most bugles but cow calls are tougher..

Behind the ear type hearing aids, help me quite a bit. Electronic ear muffs help tremendously . I am amazed at how much noise I make when I walk while wearing them. I use them as I have to have a muzzle brake on my .06
I hate to wear the hearing aids as I feel like I have a big obstruction in my ear. In noisy environments, even if I turn them down, it still puts too much noise in my head. I can't wear them going down the road in my older diesel truck. Too much noise.Same with the crackling of a potatoe chip bag

No problem when archery hunting, but most hearing aids should not be used while shooting .Some of the newer ones do have a thresh hold that shuts that out though. AT a couple $grand an ear though, that isn't going to happen

I can still hear them, but I know my step-father cannot anymore. It was sad to find that out as he has been hunting elk for many decades and can no longer enjoy hearing them sing.
