Bitterroot Bulls

Postby Indian Summer » 04 27, 2018 •  [Post 1]

The bulls in western Montana specifically the Bitterroot Mountains have been getting bigger. A decade ago we had wolf problems but it appears that the strong survived to pass on their genetics. That and a decline in hunting pressure has led to an increase in the quality and quantity of bulls. A friend found these sheds last weekend. Interestingly he also found sheds from 14 six point bulls in Idaho’s Selway Wilderness where at ine time wolves were worse than anywhere. I love the character this old boy has. Nice to know he’s out there growing a new set right now.

Great set of antlers. It is nice to see there is still some logging going on in the Bitterroots, or nearby.

Don’t happen to have a gps location for where he found those at do you? Haha. That makes me want to rethink my first few choices of hunting areas.

There has ALWAYS been potential in the Roots. I punched 13 tags in a row there during what many considered the toughest of times. They were just spoiled before that. How about these 3rds!

Dandy bull There! I was being a tad sarcastic. 1st day of my hunt 2017, saw a BIG bull. Probably should have went after him but he was down in a bottom and heading into some nasty thicket. My uncle thought we should let him be for more favorable conditions later in the hunt, never saw him again. Saw other bulls but he was the biggest by far. Can't wait to get back after them this fall!
