Did you draw in Colorado?

Postby CurlyTail » 06 04, 2018 •  [Post 1]

Just checked Colorado web site - my draw results are not back yet. Supposed to be up sometime this week (4-8th).

Did you get anything?

I'm in! Drew a colorado muzzle loader tag this morning. Checked the credit card but no new charges. Then checked email and there was a notice from Co dnr. Had 2 points for a unit that in the past has taken 1 point. Time to double the training/conditioning.

CO is hitting credit cards for Elk (as of 6/4) and Deer today (6/5). Got hit for my late cow rifle tag and for 3rd rifle deer. Will do either sex for Archery OTC.

You guys are going to love that Muzzleloader Hunt - should be pre to peak rut with a good moon phase this year. I went for Either sex Archery since it is one less point than Muzzleloader in my unit. I will be Archery Hunting during the Muzzleloader season however. There do not seem to be enough muzzleloader hunters in my unit to mess up the hunting , we have always been able to find a good area to ourselves.

Congrats to all who are successful. I am anxious about the upcoming Oregon draw. I wish I was certain of something good coming, but I am really not due for a special tag.

Got a text from my Brother this weekend. Said he got a cow Elk tag. This kind of confused me, as he already got a PP for Colorado this year. Turns out he got a cow MOOSE tag. Unit 39,46 Colorado. This is going to change things a bit for me this fall. Every day we moose hunt, it is one less day for my Elk hunt. We will most likely hunt together for a few days then separate if we do not have early success. I am going to make every effort to locate a cow moose before the season so we can take care of business first weekend. Never Moose hunted before, should be exciting.

I hope we have a similar experience, but moose in units 39, 46 are a bit sparse. I sure don't want to shoot one on Guanella Pass in front of a pile of recreational hikers and traumatize the poor souls.

TO get back in far enough to get in really great hunting, a horse sure does help.Sombrero ranches has a corral on the Morapos Creek road about 10 miles in from hwy 13.

If not, Jeanne Horne who owns/operates J Bar H outfitters will pack your elk out.Going rate last year was about $450. Sure worth it. If you stick one 6-7 miles back in, you will probably loses some meat due to spoilage

Got my deer tag about a month ago... I have no idea what was going on. I was going to call Parks and Wildlife and claim it was lost in transit or something and then it showed up that day.

I called parks and wildlife yesterday, they have had issues getting the tags out this year. They confirmed my tag was sent out and if I don’t receive it by next week to call back for a lost tag affidavit.

Bump for an interesting thread -

This year's draw for me was a goat-rodeo at best..... Had me "registered" as Non-Resident and then i drew ($661 fee....) and burned all my preference points. Ugh....

So, called parks & wildlife/CDOW - 10 weeks later a refund was issued, my points returned and was entered in the left-over draw.

With the left-over draw i connected with a 4th Rifle Unit 21 tag. Never hunted out that way, but should be nice camping and hopefully some meat hauling!

Look for upcoming post on GMU 21 advise!!!

You were able to draw a $th season hunt in 21? Have a look at the points required to draw deer and elk.

http://huntodds.monstermuleys.com/color ... ap_elk.pdf

we hunt in 22 and on the boundary we dont even bother to look west into 21, have seen MONSTER bucks and lots of elk in the Philadelphia gulch area....head south on 139 out of Rangely, and when you hit the top of the grade you will be in prime elk and deer country

I envy you sir

Hey Baja600 -

That's some great news to me (and a hearty thank you as well!). The stats on the area looked good and i don't believe it cost me a preference point as it was in the left-over draw....?

I'm completely unfamiliar with the area (though i've been memorizing different areas via google earth), but have had a couple PMs with some good intel.

I'll take your advice and i'll be looking into the area you mentioned above as well!
