Hunting the Carson

Postby currie » 08 23, 2018 •  [Post 1]

I’ll be hunting unit 2 New Mexico elk sept 1 and was wondering if anyone has hunted this spot. I plan on hunting the jic reserve line north towards to Colorado. Wondering what you encountered, did you have any luck?

Many years ago when the Jicarilla was divided into two hunting areas, we went thru it and about 1/2 way up took a road to the west into the Carson. We then hunted along the Jicarilla fence. We took a lot of good bucks out of there

I’ll be very interested to hear how you do there. Make sure you follow up this thread with a report. I’d love to hunt mule deer there.

Hunt didn’t go so well. Rained everyday. Never heard a thing. Called in one bull at the end of shooting light. Saw no mule deer in the area I hunted, but I did see 2 of the biggest mule deer I’ve ever seen on the jicirllia Indian reserve. So they are in the area.
