Pheasant recipes

Postby Ponyboy_jonas » 12 24, 2015 •  [Post 1]

Ever since I filled my archery tag, I've been trying to kill some pheasants. After a full day of looking for good spots, I finally found a slough that held a lot of birds. It took me a while to actually kill one because i don't have a dog. Once I did kill one I brought it home and cooked the breasts on the grill. They turned out okay. Does anyone have any tasty recipes for pheasant?

Way, way back in the day my mother used to bake pheasant with some various herbs on it (was really good). I haven't had/cooked a pheasant in many moons but I'm sure somebody will chime in with a recommended recipe.

I make my own dry rubs, but any BBQ style rub will work. One of the keys is to wrap the breasts in bacon, pheasant tend to dry out quicker than chicken or turkey. The bacon helps keep them moist.

You can also try smoking them or another option is to cut them into bite-sized nuggets, put a cracker-type layer on them using egg and flower, and fry them. Those are the best!

I will boil them first. Then pick the meat off the bones. Put the meat in a casserole dish with a can of creamy mushroom soup, add some bread cubes, maybe some broccoli, sprinkle with grated cheese and bake 350 for 45min. Very delicious. Even better when made by my mother. Pheasant Casserole.

- Cut into strips, bread, and fry like chicken strips.
- Marinate and grill
- Cut into pieces and stir fry
- Slow cook and make pulled pheasant (with BBQ sauce)
- Pheasant Noodle Soup

I'm sure I'll think of more later, this is making me hungry :)
