What wood do you use to cook your wild game?

Postby lamrith » 07 27, 2017 •  [Post 1]

I am wondering what woods people like to use for the different wild game that they cook. Finding info on Beef, Chicken, Pork is easy enough, but what do you guys use on your wild game? If you mix woods for specific things, let me know as well.

Venison (different for white tail, vs blacktail vs Muley?)
Elk
Moose
Bear
Cougar
Turkey
Grouse
Duck
Goose
Salmon
Trout
Bass
etc, etc...

Lets hear it folks!

I like fruit woods for lighter meats anything poultry or fish...

I use oak on all pork and beef and believe it would work well on red game meats but if you didnt want to over power the meats oak and hickory might be overkill.

Alder or pecan are a nice light wood. Cherry would work well too.

Make sure you only use hardwoods no pine etc.
