Dogs last hunt

Postby Lefty » 01 27, 2019 •  [Post 1]

I was able to see one of those amazing sights of nature. 10,000 geese feeding in the desert in Idaho.
My trapping was side tracked by geese. I set up a handfull of decoys in the cheet grass the following day, nearly two miles away .
My old dog doesn't move too fast anymore. But it was game on when I sat up and pulled the trigger. She is unable to get in and out of the truck ( and car) I had to lift her out of the layout blind to check out the dead birds.

That's a tough thing to go through right there, but a full life lived and I'm sure many geese under her belt!

She has a few problems but doesn't seem to be in any pain,.. sore and stiff. This year I could beat her to the blind walking in.
She wasnt able to hike with me even as slow as I go
She does spend a lot of time sleeping. An incredible family dog
Im sure she has retrieved 1600 plus geese. When we use to hunt alone she always seemed to know when we had our 4th bird and head for the truck with the last bird. Last year she started to head for the truck after bird 3,.. 8-)

Is she up to training a pup? It might be good for all of you.

She did help socialize each of our daughters dogs.
My daughter and I bought her a bitch last year " Lucy"
We trained Lucy as a house dog. Still a bit high strung pup. We took her on a few upland and waterfowl hunt and was incredible. Just sound basic obedience training.
