New Pa State Record Bear

Postby Indian Summer » 11 22, 2018 •  [Post 1]

Pa has the largest black bears in the country. Unfortunately since bear season is right before deer season I never take off work for it. This monster makes me want to give it a try. Forest County which I know well. 780 pounds!

Wow - that is enormous! We've got a few here in the Ozarks that have migrated north from Arkansas, but nothing remotely close to that size.

Yep. Google up big Pa black bears. You’ll be surprised. I think the previous record is around 761 lbs.

I stand corrected. A friend brought it to my attention today that the Pa record is 879 lbs and the previous record was 864. Wow why haven’t I hunted bears here!

Really cool, but how the heck do they weigh them? Can you not count a trophy unless you can get a tractor to it to lift it and get it on a scale? I'm sure most of us have tried dragging an elk even a few yards and know how well it always works!

Today, ABC news said a Pennsylvania bear came and dragged off a woman from the front of her house. It clamped down on her hind legs and damaged her pretty badly. Sounds like the Pa. hunters have more bears to deal with. The news said they were having problems tracking the bear due to a lack of snow. Haven't they heard of hounds in Pa.?
