Backup plan

Postby wawhitey » 11 09, 2019 •  [Post 1]

Since my main hunting spots are all at the high end of elevation range for whitetail around here, this summer i set up a stand in a lower elevation area that looked promising. Just to have a backup plan incase i get snowed out of my usual haunts. On the way up to my camp spot tonight i made a detour and checked my cam at the backup stand. Couple nice 5x5 bucks and this 5x6 showed up. So i guess if i get snowed out here in my plan a spot ill head south and hope i might meet up with this guy. Not too shabby.

Welcome back Whitey. I hope you have boating out of your system for awhile. Good luck on your deer hunt.

Notellum Washington is an area where Whitey hunts between Hidden Creek and Foggy Ridge. You will not find it on your even your best maps. All of the old hunters know of the place, but I can never get them to say where it is exactly.

When inquisitive folks used to ask me where I’d got my bull or buck, I’d tell em up up Web Creek. When they’d ask me where Web Creek was, I’d day it’s up a spiders arse  Kind of the same as Notellum Creek... it’s for some to know and some to find out.

This guy popped up on a trail in my main area im hunting. Never seen him before. Must be cruising for does. The buck im after lives here year round unless the snow is too deep, but hes the only "local" buck worth a damn. Get a few random good ones that show up for the rut though. Im sure there will be others soon. Damn wind was screwy today, had to bail. Hoping for more favorable conditions in the morning.

Today had a bunch of young buck shenanigans, then at dark a doe was browsing around by my stand, and i thought i was going to be stuck up there a long time. Then right when i could barely see, i saw a big dark deer shape move in front of some light grass, then grunt grunt crash crash chase. Couldnt tell if it was the buck im after, but i have a gut feeling it was. I think he ran in front of one of my cams, so ill find out next time i swap cards. Anyway, he cleared the way for me to sneak out of there without getting busted, so that was nice. Should get going good in the next few days here.
