A bit of mule deer season

Getting home earlier than expected, actually get to catch the last couple days of rifle mule deer here in washington, then the last few days of early rifle deer which is whitetail only, then rifle elk season. Havent had a chance to hunt mule here in probably 7 years i believe. Looking forward to it.

I missed the only buck I saw,, barely, Lets just say IOm impressed with my pickups braking ability



I sat for three days,,, only saw 2 does with fawns. Four days of hunting and never heard anyone shoot Im headed up today to grab my blind.

Guess i spoke too soon. Hit weather a lot worse than what was forecasted and were hiding out killing time. Looks like ill just get the last day of mule season, MAYBE a day and a half. Beats nothin though.

Got the throttles down now but not setting any speed records bucking the flood with 30-40kt wind in our face. Still i expect to be buying my deer tag at 9am monday in colville and heading straight up to the deer woods

Well i got to hunt 1 day of mule season. No luck. Found a single mule doe in her bed, then just as it was getting dark found a bear in a brushy creek bottom not too far up from the usfs rd, where id heard a whole mess of ravens. I assume he was on a gut pile or an unrecovered carcass, or maybe a lion kill. He was close enough i could hear him breathing, and i didnt want to get in an argument with a bear over a carcass in the dark so i backed out and gave him a wide berth.
Today i moved to a different mountain to hunt whitetail. Woke up to a few inches of snow and stormy weather. Got to where i wanted to be and after a few hours decided to bail. Wind was really bad. Figured i was doing more harm than good being in those woods with my scent blowing everywhere. So i came home to clean up, hang out with the dog, and im heading back up after whitetail in the morning

Well, thursday, man conditions were perfect. I sat in the spot i thought i needed to be, being conservative. Really didnt even expect to be home until november. Didnt have any plans to hunt early rifle. Anyway, sat until darkdark thursday, snuck out. Friday, the last day of rifle for the year in ferry county, wind was a screwy mess, so i cut my losses about 1030am and left. But checked a cam on my way out. Illbedamned, the buck i wanted was just 200 yards away from me on thursday, 25 min before the end of shooting light, but out of my line of sight. Never knew he was there. But i think i have his number from scouting around this summer. If i can get the time off next year, ithink i can get him.

This is him. Obviously looks bigger in velvet. But a solid buck. Even just 5 years ago hed have been a half hearted backup plan. Nowadays hes a rare gem.

Aftermy last 2posts, going to clarify before people get all smartie pants (swede... cough cough) i know this thread started as a mule hunting thread, amd those pics are a whitetail, but mule season ended the 24th, whitetail went through the 27th.

That's a great whitetail. I know you've killed some whoppers but man I'd be pleased as punch with him.
