Need some advice!

What am I doing wrong! I have scouted in the past and seen some big deer, but then come opening morning or anytime during the rifle hunt in October, I cant find those deer! I always thought that deer dont travel far,,,,,,maybe I'm wrong! If I didn't know better, I would swear that they magically dissapear! Any suggestions?

Where are you hunting? I know when I lived in MN the firearm season opened and the deer stopped patterning and became more nocturnal. The best places to hunt were deep woods and funnel areas. People would chase deer all over and back again! However out here in Wy it's not nearly that bad. Once you get away from a road (people can be lazy) deer seem pretty relaxed.

I live in Utah! I hunt off road, usually during the year I watch them close to water sources, but just have a hard time finding them during mid-late October!

If it's anything like western Montana at that point the bucks are starting to think about the rut. I'd say spend some time finding the numbers of does and the bucks won't be too far. Before that though... yes they can be like ghosts.
