Wha-hoo!! my daughter drew an Idaho bull moose tag!!!

Postby Lefty » 05 31, 2016 •  [Post 1]

Were on a roll Three once-in-a-life-time bull moose tags in five years.
My middle daughter drew a bull moose tag and said she wants to try with her bow. This is the same unit I drew in last year. In comparison to five years ago where we saw 2 or 3 over 40inch ' bulls every Friday Saturday hunt, last year I was panicking. All of those days archery elk hunting in September and we never saw a bull or cow moose. Then every Friday night Saturday and just checking for moose early Sunday I didnt see many .
But her goals for archery is any bull over 30" and dad will be back up with buckshot :o

opps I always get pictures of tags without the hunt number  ;)

I've been applying for a moose tag for close to 10 years. Still trying to figure out who I've wronged at Idaho Fish and Game.

What general area are you hunting? I know of some bruisers wayyyy north.

South East Idaho.

Ten years I would be bummed.
I was putting in for the resident Utah moose when we lived there. That was a long stretch of nothing.

My wife would claim that the elderly and women are chosen first in Idaho.

Congratulations to you and your daughter. I hope she gets a great P&Y bull. We will look forward to seeing her and her trophy here.

The disappointing thing is the moose are getting fewer an fewer and smaller. Spoke with a miner who has some claims,.. he has seen the same in the unit.

We have lots of weekends, Or I do.
I dont want her archery hunting alone. I plan on being ready with the old snowmobile so were willing to hunt in the deeper snow

Lefty your post brought back a vivid memory. My wife, girl friend at the time was working as a lab tech in the hospital when one of the doctors found out we were engaged. He walked over to her and said, "remember Chiqita, it only takes one." Of coarse, I don't think he was thinking about moose. Anyway best wishes.

I am working on a moose decoy. I have never had one before because of the size. Last week I was at a 3d shoot and a hunting guide suggested that I make one with only a palmation. beings you mount my decoy on one side of your bow when you move it from side to side it will look like a moose waggling his head. This is what I have so far,. When I get it done I will post some pictures and video of the decoy in action. The white parts cut out.

For a solo hunter I think they look great.

Ill make a set of antlers, two-piece. That Ill use while she is a shooter
I dont want a moose mistaking her for a moose
