Elk Count Down Distraction

Postby BrentLaBere » 08 24, 2016 •  [Post 1]

Elk season is coming up quick, as is deer season in my home state. Its pretty typical for me to get some good deer on camera, in day light, before the velvet comes off and they go nocturnal for awhile. I have a picture of this 4 point from last year(at least he looks the same). He put some inches on in one years time. What do you think he will score? Not the greatest at it, but I can get a pretty good idea. Lets see what you guys think.

Some great pics . My 12 year old neighbor kid killed a 140 last year with his bow, looks like the two bucks could be twins.

Trigger happy......Had an opportunity at this buck Saturday night and I couldn't pass him up. Quartering away really hard, the shot went in behind the ribs and exited out in front of the opposite leg. Guts, liver, lung and a few arteries up front. Shot had me worried. I could smell the gut shot on the arrow itself but also so the dark blood. Decided to back out and wait for awhile before taking up the trail. He made it 60 yards or so. Really stiff when we walked up on him, reasons for not taking the best photos.
Not really close to that 140 mark, I thought he was a tish bigger.(low 130s) Still a nice deer and Im happy to put my tag on him. Earliest ive shot a deer into the bow season in ND. Im going to miss sitting in the stand late October and into November. I guess it just gives me time to head out for rifle in Montana, elk hunting October 22nd cant come soon enough!
