Just dreaming here

Postby wawhitey » 04 22, 2017 •  [Post 1]

Well i put in for my oil moose tag, and bought some raffle tickets. Once again i get to dream for a few months before reality rears its ugly head. Checked some cams today and yesterday. Tons of moose pics. Heres just a few.

Nice photos.
Three years ago on my first archery elk hunt in WY I was sitting indian style on the ground in a makeshift blind. A bull moose came by and stopped by right in front of my blind, 4 feet away.......they are huge! He stood there for maybe half a minute. wind was perfect and he didn't wind me.
Even though my heart was beating out of my chest, I could hear him breathing and he kind of had a sigh / grunt thing going on.

I couldn't get over how deep the chest was, truly a really cool experience.
Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.

It may be "your" year Dean. I don't put in for a moose tag for some odd reason but certainly keeping my fingers crossed for you!

Good luck on the moose hunt. You obviously know where to go get one if you can get a tag.

As much as it goes against my own best interest, id encourage you to put in if you have any interest. For the record, even buying 1 raffle ticket will give you drastically better odds than putting in for the oil draw. Not to mention a way better season. Could be the best $6 you ever spent. Ill put this out right now, anybody here ever gets a wa moose tag, id be glad to help, just for the joy of going on a moose hunt. And a couple pounds of burger would sweeten the deal of course.

Every year while hunting whitetails, i see more good shooter bull moose than i see whitetail bucks. Drives me crazy. I think im just subconsiously drawn to areas that i know have lots of moose. If i dont luck out this year, im going to sing my whale song on the raffle in the next couple years. Our moose numbers are going downhill fast, thanks in no small part to our exploding wolf population. I feel its a better get while the gettins good kind of situation.

I've been applying for a moose permit here in Idaho for the last 12 years...nothing.

My dad got his permit the first year he applied. Got a monster bull.

Put my then wife in for a cow moose permit, she got it the first time and allegedly got a cow...hunting with her crippled "dad"/ my new replacement...

Just put my new wife in for a cow moose...I'm hoping for good things this year!

Well raffle ticket sales are closed, and the final number of tickets sold has been posted. My odds of drawing a moose tag are 1 in 17, and my odds of drawing the whitetail tag are 1 in 10. Drawing will likely be by the end of the week.

Well, what did you find out? I hope it is good news. RJ says I can't shoot a moose with my elk tag, but I can take a cougar or wolf. Baa-humbug. There are plenty of moose where we will be hunting and a griz or two also.

Congratulations on the deer tag. That is really a good one. It should be a lot of fun. Get a big-un.
