I had four different bears come to my stand location one morning. On other occasions I would have one stop by. On the same day I watched this bear, after I got out; my cousin had three bears come by that same stand. This guy seemed bigger and better colored than most of the others. Would you have shot him? What do you think? Would he/she be something to take home? The bears all stayed around very close, and had no idea I was anywhere near.

You already know my answer Swede!

Joking aside what if any elk sign was in the area would play a factor in if I shoot or not now that I have one down. If there is good sign/sound of elk activity I would let him pass.

That bear has decent size, hide/hair looks good too, not thin like mine last year, so yes he would be a shooting candidate for sure if there was little/no elk sign like we had last year. I would have wasp spray handy this time too, so could get him take care of immediately.

I love that rating. Very simple. If I ever want a bear, it is good to know where to go and how to get a good one. "Shoot him!"

The advise given to me on bears were all questions
What do you plan to do with it,. mount? or rug?
Do you know the cost of the mounts or rugs you want?
If the bear will hang around until more prime . Im going to wait

For me it's a time thing. If I had unlimited time every September I would be way more willing to tag other game- bear, deer, etc...all have way less meat you will get for the time you invest packing and processing if you do it yourself. That being said even at a terrible angle for judging-he looks good to me!

I would shoot.

Mounts are 500-1000 in my area. He would look nice on my wall. Yep he is getting an arrow!

Maybe I will buy a bear tag next year. I have never had any real interest in having a bear, but where I hunted this year I could have had my pick of several. If I shot a bear, I would have to skin, butcher, pack out and deal with the meat and hide. Then I would have to eat it. Oh forget it. It ain't worth all the trouble. :D

That's a good bear (guessing a 250lb boar) not a dink. Bear meat is excellent, better for roasts than deer or elk, really good corned, and varieties of meat products like sausage or pepperoni.

At the end of the fall, mix it up with your deer and elk for grind.

I like bear a lot, but refuse to shoot small ones, and sometimes a big one is too much meat.
